Discover Greece - Pleiades: The Voices of Epirus

In Epirus, the rugged region in northwestern Greece, a group of women are preserving an ancient approach to music using solely one instrument: the voice. Some historians believe this tradition originates from Ancient Greece and the Dorians. The women’s ensemble, Pleiades, are keeping the past alive with their polyphonic singing, and with it a signature part of the identity of Epirus. Listening or singing a polyphonic song is a primordial experience representing a forgotten connection with nature and with the earth. Credits: Director: Ilir Tsouko
